Chicago in 36 Hours

Had a great time in Chicago this weekend! I left for the airport right after work. Flight was uneventful. I arrived at 12:45pm and took a cab to Gabe's hotel. He'd bought me a salad when he went to dinner, so I ate a really late dinner, and we watched Forrest Gump.

On Sat, we checked out of the hotel and then had brunch at Bridge House Tavern. Our table was outside, right on the river, so it was a fun way to enjoy a gorgeous summer day.

Then we walked around downtown for a couple hours, which included walking down Michigan Avenue and past the Chicago Theatre.

We took the 4:30pm train to Elgin, and Erica and Adam picked us up. We hung out in their backyard for a couple hours and enjoyed the sun. Then went out for Italian food. Delicious! We hung outside some more and enjoyed the warm night and ate ice cream, then I looked at all of Erica's Italy albums and the one from her thirtieth birthday.

On Sun, we hung out in the backyard some more (totally jealous and wish we had a backyard!), then went to Portillo's for "brunch."

Then it was off to the airport. We had the dumbest flight -- Chicago to Detroit to SF, so an hour in the wrong direction. But, it was that or leave at 8am or 8pm, so it was worth it. We were originally seated in center seats on opposite ends of the plane, but luckily were able to get re-seated together. We watched Mud on the plane. It was good, but I found it a little confusing. We got home around 9pm.

We had a great time hanging out with Erica and Adam as always. Hope to see you again real soon!
